Eco-Friendly Halloween Costumes: Tips for Cute Costumes You Will Want to Wear Again (and again)

Halloween is around the corner and whether you live for spooky szn and have multiple ‘fits lined up for the festivities or you find the return to costume parties the most frightful, un-delightful part of the harvest season, we have a few ideas to spark your creativity and leave you with a new Thread Spun garment to wear again and again.

Most of these suggestions are zero waste and eco friendly too, so come Nov. 1st, you’ll be free of guilt and have a new fall staple to love! I think we can all agree that after the year we’ve had, adopting a different persona for the night and leaving reality behind will be a welcome escape.

Scroll through to gather some costume inspo from some of our favorite pieces in the shop and get ready for cute costumes you'll wear again and again!

Moira Rose from Schitt’s Creek: Assume the persona of Schitt’s Creek formerly famous and wealthy daytime soap star extraordinaire. Transform into Moira Rose with Thread Spun’s all-black Harper jumpsuit by Rachel Pally (made ethically in LA) and a big pair of extravagant looking (but actually affordable) polarized Camina sunglasses. Pop on a thrifted blonde wig, a few over-the-top black and white accessories and suddenly-you, (yes you!) are the wife of the second-biggest video rental company in North America!

Ursula from Los Espookys: Have you treated yourself to an episode of Los Espooky’s yet? October is the perfect time to if you haven’t yet! Catch Fred Armisen as Uncle Tico and prepare for belly laughter as a crew of horror-obsessed friends become entrepreneurs in the business of scaring. Ursula is the badass leading lady with brains and business savvy in the bunch. She sports an enviable 90’s wardrobe and pulls off an Elaine from Seinfeld coif. Pair Thread Spun’s organic cotton Oliver Bootcut Jeans in Moonfleet by Boyish, with Rachel Pally Freya Top and Harley Jae Cropped Jacket. Thrift tiny-lensed sunglasses and a southwestern belt to complete the lewk. Prepare to scare with some flare.

A$AP Rocky: His Met Gala quilted jacket was the outfit we all wanna wear when we made plans but would rather stay on the couch under a cozy comforter. Really any of Thread Spun’s handmade textiles would evoke the same idea of hitting the red carpet swaddled in something lovingly handmade like Rocky did. May we suggest the Flower Pot mini blanket by Slowdown Studio? Or perhaps a nice shag rug? Like this one-of-a-kind handmade beauty from Guatemalan weavers by Meso Goods. Georgia O’Keeffe: Okay, we admit that most apparel stocked at Thread Spun would feel right at home in Georgia O’Keeffe’s closet. With a lot of class and a touch of the southwest, we have several options that capture O’Keeffe’s androgynous silhouette exuding sensibility and style.

With a Presidential Medal of Freedom, a spot in the Women's Hall of Fame and enduring works of art that continue to inspire, who wouldn’t want to emulate this accomplished creative? Try our cozy hand-embroidered quilted jacket by Marigold Row over Sugar Candy Mountain’s Marigold Jumpsuit in black. Their Nettles Coat with black pants will also capture the look. All of Sugar Candy Mountain's beautiful garments are handmade in LA. You’ll need Made by Minga’s Boater Hat made by fourth and fifth generation artisans in Ecuador to complete the look and remember to tuck the signature white headscarf underneath. We found this piece on O’Keeffe’s style a good read if you're interested to learn more about her signature style.

Troop Beverly Hills: A super cute, recognizable costume choice with a little spunk and humor. Outerknown’s organic cotton Utility Jumpsuit is a perfect base. Add Tono’s hand stitched silk (complete with brass slide) and Made by Minga’s Boater Hat and you are ready for an eventful evening in the Halloween wilderness! Daphne Bridgerton: A beautiful babe for the ages! Become Daphne B. with minimal effort and a little sparkle. Grab Rachel Pally’s Piper Linen dress, complete with puffed sleeves and a shiny choker necklace. You’ll need a pair of long gloves that are easy to come by this time of year. Last step if you want to class it up would be a dainty bun and Thread Spun’s Revel Earrings by Sara Safavi. You’ll wear the Piper dress time and again and look perfectly the part of Bridgerton’s leading lady.
